Dragon Runners

What:

Dragon Runners is a running program designed for 3rd-6th graders. This is an exciting program that is aimed at strengthening students in body and spirit by combining group activities with running. The mission of the program is to encourage students to live their full potential by inspiring healthy friend, family, and community relationships, as well as to develop strength and endurance in the sport of running. It is our hop that students will develop a life-long passion for physical fitness as well as friendships along the way.

When:

Monday & Wednesdays, 4:15 PM - 5:30 PM, September 16 2024 - November 23rd.*

*Dragon Runners will train for the Herndon Turkey Trot 5K, which will be held on Saturday, November 23rd. The date for the final date practice/pizza party will be posted soon.

Pick up: 5:30 PM promptly - On the blacktop near the playground

The students should be dismissed when Dragon Runners are announced during our dismissal procedures. They will then walk out to the blacktop to meet with the instructors. Please make every effort to be on time with pick up as the instructors will need to be on-site until all children have been picked up.

Dress:

Runners should be dressed appropriately for the weather. We will have some cool/cold days at the beginning of our running window and some warm/hot days towards the end of the training period. Please make sure your child has the proper running gear for both types of conditions. This would include breathable shirts, shorts, possibly sweatpants, and, of course, a good pair of running shoes that will support their feet while they run. It is also important that students drink water and bring a water bottle to every practice. Students should not show up to Dragon Runners in jeans or dress shoes.

We need your help!

Our group this season could be VERY large! When we ran last season in the spring, we had over 100 runners. While it is very exciting to have so many students interested in running, it is important we have plenty of supervision. If you are interested in helping, we absolutely welcome volunteers. It doesn’t matter what your pace is, we have students who will match your pace. We need runners and walkers of all paces. The more volunteers we have, the more successful our program will be. Let us know if you can help by emailing volunteer@dranesvillepta.com or click here to complete our volunteer form.

Cost:

$45
